About God’s Tooth Tales

Did you know that most of the people in the world live hours away from safe, affordable dental care? People in many third world, or developing, countries live out their lives with poor dental health and sometimes tremendous pain because they do not have access to safe dental treatment. They are either too poor to afford care or too far away to receive it. Grace Dental Mission (later becoming GDMMissions) was started in 1996 because of a burden God placed upon our hearts to use the skills He has given us for Him.

During a trip to Papua New Guinea in 1996, not only were we able to help folks with their dental needs, but we realized that those coming could also hear the gospel as they waited for their turn. It was during that trip that Grace Dental Mission was born in our hearts and a few months later it became an official mission organization.

Tooth Tales” became the name of our regular newsletter detailing our ministry activities. In reality, however, these are not the Mitchell’s activities, or Tooth Tales, they are God’s Tooth Tales. God working through us to accomplish His purposes in our lives and those with whom we interact on the mission field.

Why God’s Tooth Tales, and what are Inspiring Tales from the Field?

This site is put in place as an avenue through which we can highlight what God has done over the years and how He continues to work in our lives today. God truly is the Head of our ministry. We want to give Him all the glory that is due.

A monthly newsletter does not afford enough space to tell all that God has taught us, or all that God has accomplished during a particular ministry trip. Events that happen are usually disguised opportunities for us to learn more about God and to trust Him more. They often show us our shortcomings and help us to see where our lives need to change in order to conform more to the perfect life of our savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.

It is our prayer that God will use these “Tooth Tales,” particularly the “Inspiring Tales from the Field” to encourage you and to show you how faithful our God is.

The Message of God’s Tooth Tales

The Bible has much to say about showing compassion to those in need. “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick” (Matthew 14:14). Since the beginning of our mission, thousands of people in numerous countries have received help for their physical need. It has been our pleasure to provide care for them, but we also are even more concerned about their spiritual need.

The Bible tells us in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” No matter how good we may try to be, we have all fallen short of God’s standard. God is a holy God who requires holiness in us if we are to be with Him in heaven. Knowing our sinful condition, but loving us completely in spite of it, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the punishment for our sins. He became our sinless substitute and took upon Himself the iniquity of us all (Isaiah 53:6). God is pleased to count any one of us righteous if we believe that Jesus’ payment for sin on the cross applies to us personally. He does not desire “that any should perish” (II Peter 3:9). This is the message that we take to the people of the world – that God has made a way for their sins to be forgiven and that He cares about their suffering.

What about you? How is your dental health? But more importantly, how is your spiritual health? God cares about your eternal destiny and wants to declare you righteous. Will you believe in His Son’s sacrificial death on the cross in your place and have your sins forgiven?
